Non-residents want their voices heard in smoke ban vote

Polls are open for early voting and thousands of residents in Wilmington have already cast their ballots. A much smaller number will vote on the issue of a smoking ban which will impact everyone who visits Wrightsville Beach.

Snow’s Cut Bridge down to two lanes Wednesday till February

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Traffic on Snow’s Cut Bridge on Carolina Beach Road over the Intracoastal Waterway in New Hanover County will be reduced from four to two lanes beginning Wednesday.

Crews will do extensive repair work. The project is expected to last approximately four months. The lane closures will remain in place during the entire construction period.

Bladen among 106 counties considered bellwethers for presidential race

Onslow man, Wilmington woman busted for pot grow house

SNEADS FERRY, NC (WWAY) — A Sneads Ferry man and a Wilmington woman are charged with running a marijuana grow house in Sneads Ferry.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and the Naval Criminal Investigation Service conducted a search warrant at 2487 NC Highway 172 in Sneads Ferry Friday after deputies got a tip from investigators at Camp Lejeune that the house was being used to grow marijuana.

During the search investigators say they found two large marijuana plants in the back yard. They also say they found a room inside that appeared to be a room used for drying harvested marijuana for use.

Officers seized about six pounds of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia from the home.

Ryan Tewksbury, 29, of Sneads Ferry, and Jessica Whelton, 25, of Wilmington are charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; manufacture marijuana by cultivation; maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia.
