Cape Fear Fair & Expo keeping eye on Sandy forecast

Friday, October 26th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Organizers at the Cape Fear Fair & Expo are keeping a close watch on how Hurricane Sandy impacts the weather this weekend. For now, though, the fair is scheduled to be open tonight for Midnight Madness, which runs until 2 a.m.

Fair Manager Skip Watkins says they do not expect problems tonight, though that could change depending on the amount of wind and rain at the airport.

The big question is Saturday. The fair is scheduled to be open from noon until midnight, but forecasters say they expect our area to feel the strongest effects from Sandy Saturday evening.

Watkins says the fair will wait to see how well the forecast holds before making a decision on Saturday. Regardless of what happens, Watkins hopes to be open on schedule at 1 p.m. Sunday, when Sandy should be well up the coast. After that, he hopes the forecast of much nicer weather will hold until the fair wraps up November 3.
