Crash shuts down part of MLK Parkway

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An overnight crash sent one man to the hospital, and shut down part of MLK Parkway.

It happened just before 2 a.m. near the Burgaw exit.

Police, Firefighters, EMS and State Troopers all responded to the call, and detoured traffic until the scene was clear.

Highway Patrol says a car sideswiped the guard rail in the westbound lane of MLK Parkway before the driver drifted back across two lanes and hit the bridge barrier.

That’s when another car slammed into the car that had already crashed.

The driver who was hit by the other car was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A trooper on the scene says they believe the driver may have been drinking before the accident.

An investigation is underway.
