Sneak peek of new Trader Joe’s

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A grocery store with some Hawaiian flare is set to open this week in Wilmington.

Trader Joe’s will host a grand opening Friday at 8 a.m.

The grocer on South College Road offers unique items such as candy cane cereal and peppermint pretzel slims.
and the employees stand out with some flare.

Employees wear Hawaiian shirts and use bells to communicate instead of an intercom system.

North Carolina-based Marine killed in Afghanistan

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) – Military officials say a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune has died in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that 25-year-old Cpl. Christopher M. Monahan Jr. of Island Heights, N.J., died Nov. 26 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province.

Monahan was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 2, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Exclusive: Incoming elected official cans long-time county employees

An incoming elected official is laying off two employees who have decades of experience working for the county. According to emails we obtained, the official also requested that new hires not be subjected to pre-employment drug tests or background checks.
