Hundreds gather at riverfront for lighting of the holiday tree

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds flocked to the riverfront in downtown Wilmington for the annual tradition of lighting the holiday tree.

Folks enjoyed a performance by the Epik Jazz Trio.

At about 6:30, it was time for the big event. After two failed attempts to light the tree, the third time was the charm. Red and green lights beamed from the branches. Even Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus stopped by to spread some Christmas cheer.

Thousands wait hours for doorbusters

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Thousands of dedicated Black Friday shoppers came out to Best Buy in Wilmington.
The line snaked around the building and down the sidewalk of New Centre Drive.
The person at the front of that line got there at 5 p.m. Wednesday!

WWAY’s Matt Ray caught up with one group who waited in the cold for hours for those doorbuster deals. All of the members of the group were after TVs. A 40-inch Toshiba for $179 was the biggest doorbuster of the night, but it only went to the first 27 people in line.
