Man wanted for robbery spree in jail

Monday, December 17th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man wanted for several thefts from the Walmart in Southport is in jail in New Hanover County facing more than two dozen charges.

William Randolph Spencer is in jail under $228,600 bond. His 29 pending charges include several counts of larceny, as well as trespassing, failure to appear and failure to change his address as a sex offender. Wilmington Police arrested Spencer Friday. Some of his charges are for alleged crimes in Brunswick and Pender counties.

Southport Police asked for help earlier this month tracking down Spencer and another, unidentified man for stealing from Walmart. At the time, investigators said the men had been on what police called a spree of crimes and were wanted in connection with thefts in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties.

NC gives its 15 electoral votes to GOP’s Romney

Monday, December 17th, 2012

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina is making its choices for president and vice president official.

Fifteen Republicans meeting Monday in the old Capitol building in Raleigh picked as the state’s presidential electors cast the state’s 15 electoral votes for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

The Romney-Ryan ticket edged Democratic President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden by 92,000 votes in the state’s popular vote on Election Day six weeks ago. That gave the GOP the right to cast the electoral votes.

Romney’s career as businessman and governor was praised before the vote by Art Pope, the retail-store magnate and former state legislator who has been a top funder of conservative causes and candidates.

Obama was re-elected to a second term. He won North Carolina’s electoral votes four years ago.

Most NC ferry routes to cut schedules during Christmas

Monday, December 17th, 2012
