Contributions help CFCC students make sure families have merry Christmas

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Workers at Cape Fear Community College are playing the roll of Santa’s elves again helping make sure the families of some CFCC students will have a very merry Christmas.

Since 2005 the Holiday Helpers program has helped students with children who are struggling financially during the holidays.

This year more than 150 donors gave more than $14,000 to help more than 140 student families get through the holidays.

Student Jessaca White says her gift will help make sure her kids have a merry Christmas.

“This actually is going to help me out a lot,” White said. “I’m a mother of three kids. I’m a single mom, so this is a lot for me. I don’t know. I can’t show my appreciation or gratitude… I can’t. There’s no words for it.”

Holiday Helpers provided students with gift cards, as well as gifts of food and clothing.

Each student was vetted financially to ensure that all of this money was going to students who it could help the most.
