NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher continuing to rehabilitate sea turtles

Sunday, January 20th, 2013

FORT FISHER, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is continuing to rehabilitate a group of Loggerhead sea turtles they received at the beginning of the year.

The turtles suffer from cold-stunning, which makes them lethargic which can cause the turtles to wash ashore.

Due to the aquariums efforts, three out of the eight cold-stunned sea turtles have been listed as healthy and released back into the ocean.

“The turtles are lots better,” said Special Activities Guide Lauren Avery. “They’re eating more, we do have three of them that have been released already out of the eight. The 5 remaining that are still improving, trying to make sure they’re eating enough and gaining enough weight to head back out.”

The aquarium will be free tomorrow in celebration on Martin Luther King.
