WPD responds to house fire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department responded to a house fire this afternoon at 1110 James Alley.

The fire was contained to the bedroom of origin even though smoke spread throughout the house. The fire was caused by a minor playing with a lighter.

Investigators estimate the damages to be $10,000 to the structure and $2,500 to the contents. No injuries have been reported and the American Red Cross is assisting the family.

Pender Co. man charged with more than 27 sexually related counts

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Danny Dewitt Strickland today on 27 different sexually related charges. Strickland has been previously charged with four sexually related counts.

Strickland is charged with nine counts of First Degree Statutory Sex Office of a Child, nine counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child and nine counts of Crimes Against Nature.

Strickland was previously charged and was on a $250,000 bond for two counts of First Degree Statutory Sex Offense of a Child and two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child.

As a result of the additional 27 sexual related charges and a different victim, Strickland is now on a total of $5,150,000 bond.
