Dalton, McCrory, Perdue committees absolved

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Campaign finance complaints against the campaigns of Pat McCrory and Walter Dalton in their North Carolina gubernatorial race have been dismissed by the State Board of Elections.

An election board staff member wrote separately this week to a Dalton committee lawyer and the state Republican Party saying no violations were found and the complaints are considered resolved.

Dalton’s committee questioned Oct. 31 whether McCrory’s campaign reported illegal payments to fly South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to attend McCrory events. It also mentioned Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker visiting to help McCrory.

The next day the GOP wanted the board to examine the committees of Dalton and outgoing Gov. Bev Perdue about $99,000 in Dalton donations received from people who previously asked for refunds from Perdue.

McCrory defeated Dalton in November.
