Ex-NC Gov. Perdue going to Harvard for semester

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Former North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue will spend her first few months out of office at Harvard University.

Harvard’s Institute of Politics announced Thursday that Perdue was selected for one of six resident fellowships for the spring semester. She’ll lead weekly study groups and interact with students on the Massachusetts campus.

Other new resident fellows include political analyst Charlie Cook, Democratic National Convention chief executive Steve Kerrigan and Karen Hughes, an adviser to former President George W. Bush.

Perdue was North Carolina’s first female lieutenant governor and governor, serving as chief executive for four years until earlier this month. She decided against seeking a second term as governor.

Perdue said last month she planned to become part of a foundation emphasizing education and technology and to start her own business.

ONLY ON 3: Hear 911 call from Elizabethtown school threat

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — Police are still searching for a man they say robbed a bank in Elizabethtown Friday, and they’re wondering if he’s connected to a bomb threat at a nearby school around the same time.

Police say two crimes like this around the same time is very suspicious for the usually quiet town.

We now have the 911 call someone at the school from the bomb threat:

“They said that, the man said that they won’t let him have his kids, whoever has his child, he’s mad. And he says you think that Connecticut was something, he’s gonna blow all these f’ing kids here at this school up. He says there’s a bomb, he’s going to put a bomb in this school.”

Police think the bank robber is Aaron Montrese McDowell, 27. They still are not sure if he is also the person that called in the bomb threat.

If you have any information contact Elizabethtown Police.
