CFPUA suspicious package harmless; scene cleared

The Wilmington Police Department's bomb squad found nothing harmful in the suspicious package found at the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority offices Thursday morning.

Suspicious package shuts down CFPUA, Goverment Center Dr.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Government Center Drive is closed as a bomb squad investigates a suspicious package at the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority’s office.

Wilmington Police say the package was found leaning against the CFPUA sign.

CFPUA spokesman Mike McGill says the package was noticed just before 8 a.m. He says Wilmington Police are on scene and have instructed CFPUA to evacuate the building.

CFPUA wants customers to know not to try to come to the building. Instead, you can go to the CFPUA office on Chestnut Street, McGill says.

NC attorney general, DA discuss public corruption

Attorney General Roy Cooper and Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby will outline their legislative proposals on the issue Thursday morning in Raleigh.
