Person robbed at area McDonald’s restaurant

Naked man arrested near Creekwood

WILMINGTON, NC. (WWAY) — A Wilmington man was arrested Sunday afternoon after reportedly running naked from his home and firing multiple shots at a vehicle.

Investigators say that at 2:57 PM Sunday afternoon 48-year-old Steven Ross may have fired shots inside of his home in the 2600 block of McClammy Street before running outside naked and attempting to shoot at a burgundy car that was driving by.

Witnesses told police that Ross then went back into the home and dressed him self and retrieved a backpack.

As police arrived on scene Ross ran away and after a short chase he was captured, but had apparently hidden his backpack, which officers never found.

Investigators say that Ross had small amounts of narcotics at the time of his arrest.

There is no word at this time what Steven Ross will be charged with.

Pender Co. deputy totals patrol vehicle

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering from an accident suffered while on patrol.

According to investigators, Deputy Burke Bailey was performing a safety check at South Topsail Elementary when he noticed a speeding car go by.

While trying to catch up to the vehicle Deputy Bailey ran off of the road and over corrected his vehicle, which sent him into the ditch.

Bailey was taken to the New Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.

According to a fellow law enforcement officer accidents like this are rare.

“Sheriff’s deputies and police officers that go through basic law enforcement training there is required driving in that block of instruction and it does include pursuit driving and extraordinary vehicle operation,” said Sgt. M.L. Collier of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
