Driver charged with murder, DWI is Friday crash

Monday, February 25th, 2013

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man is charged with murder after a car crash on US 74/76 Friday in Columbus County. Today a judge set Pierre Waler’s bond at $1 million.

Investigators say Pierre Walker, 26, is charged with second degree murder and habitual driving while intoxicated for his role in the death of 61-year-old Martha Mintz.

Troopers say Walker did not have a license due to three previous DWIs when he crossed over the median hitting Mintz’s Chevrolet HHR nearly head-on near Delco Friday afternoon.

Investigators suspect Walker was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man involved in a fatal crash in Wilmington Sunday night on Carolina Beach Road that killed a man on a motorcycle is charged with DWI.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. Sunday near the Pirate’s Table Seafood Restaurant.

Wilmington Police say Augusto Rosales-Valera is charged with DWI and driving with a revoked license after his truck crashed into a Harley, killing the driver.

The StarNews reports Rosales-Valera owns Los Primos Mexican restaurant and was pulling out of the restaurant when the crash happened.

The man on the motorcycle, Paul Raymond Crutchfield, died at the scene.

Police seized Rosales-Valera’s truck, since he’d been driving with a suspended license.

Police also say Crutchfield, the man killed, was speeding before the accident.

Wilmington Police Department’s Traffic Unit will reconstruct the crash to determine if any other factors may have contributed to the crash.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Approximately 1,000 gallons of diluted wastewater overflowed into Greenfield Lake Saturday.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority spokesman Mike McGill says crews discovered an overflowing manhole in the 1000 block of Cypress Drive around 2 p.m. Saturday.

It took just over an hour for crews to clean and repair the leak, and the incident is currently under investigation.

Because of the relatively small amount of waste spilled, no environmental impact is expected.
