Ashley Jacobs leaving us; Focusing on family

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A valued member of our newsroom family is leaving next week to spend more time with her own family.

Ashley Jacobs, who has co-anchored ‘Good Morning Carolina’ with Tim Buckley the last year, has decided to hop out of broadcasting for a bit to focus on her two young children.

For the past twelve months, Ashley has gotten up in the middle of the night, driven to the station from Onslow County, anchored the newscast, and then driven all the way back – never missing a beat (except the morning she called me around 4:00 a.m. to tell me she had hit a deer.)

Ashley is also married to an active duty Marine, so you can imagine how busy her life is.

She and Tim brought tremendous energy and chemistry to GMC. It’s hard to give up someone so good, but I also believe with all my heart that family comes first.

While we look for her replacement, we’re lucky to have Randy “to the Rescue” Aldridge filling in for us. While he has spent most of his career in interior design, Randy actually has a Journalism degree from UNC and he tells me he’s excited to finally put it to work.

We wish Ashley and her family all the best. Thank you Ashley for all you brought to the station. You’ll be missed.
