Duplin County Schools on a 2-hr delay today

DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Duplin County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay Friday, February 22nd due to weather. Staff are asked to report as normal if the roads are safe.

The National Weather Service had issued a winter weather advisory for Duplin County this morning due to the very low threat of freezing rain. The StormTrack 3 Weather team is expecting NO winter weather at all in Southeastern North Carolina this morning.

Leland looks at sign ordinance

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Leland Town Council met Thursday night and one issue was a public hearing on the enforcement of the towns sign ordinance. The town wants to make signs more uniform and more attractive. Three local business people spoke at the public hearing and they were all strongly against any changes to their business signs.

“It would hurt sales a lot, Daniel Teachey a local merchant said. “We operate on a very slim profit margin and it’s getting slimmer all the time. We need the volume to be able to generate enough money to pay our bills and pay taxes and everything else.”

The town did pass a motion to continue the vote on sign enforcement for 30 days to get more local input from businesses.
