Soldier journalists get lessons in TV from WWAY

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — WWAY is proud to host some soldiers from Fort Bragg as guests this week.

Bravo Company 3rd Military Information Support Battalion A is the Department of Defense’s only unit whose mission is to disseminate information throughout various broadcast platforms worldwide.

They’re visiting the station this week to see how we do TV. Three groups this week are meeting with members of news, production and engineering departments. They hope to take the lessons back to their work in the military.

Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry goes to summer schedule for Easter

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -– The summer schedule will start a little earlier than planned on the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry.

The NCDOT has decided to implement the summer schedule a few days early to accommodate the Easter Holiday weekend and increased traffic on the route. Two additional runs in each direction were scheduled to start Monday. Instead they will be on the schedule starting Saturday.

The changes will mean added runs at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. from Southport, and at 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. from Fort Fisher. The complete schedule, effective March 30, is as follows:

North Brunswick coach temporarily suspended

North Brunswick’s Randy Fennell has been temporarily suspended from his head baseball coach position.

North Brunswick HS baseball coach suspended

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — North Brunswick High School’s baseball coach has been temporarily suspended from his job.

Brunswick County Schools spokeswoman Jessica Swencki says Randy Fennell is only suspended from his head coach position and not his job as a teacher the school’s athletics director.

Swencki says the school district is investigating the incident that led to the suspension, but she would not provide any details.

Fennell last coached a game last week against Whiteville. His suspension started two days later.

Last night North Brunswick lost to West Bladen.

Swencki says she’ll release more information as it becomes available.
