Riverfest donates scholarships to CFCC Marine Technology

Monday, March 25th, 2013

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Five students in Cape Fear Community College’s Marine Technology program got a big check today to help pay their tuition. Riverfest donated $8,000 for scholarships.

One student says it was a nice surprise to get the award letter in the mail. He says the scholarship really helps him get through this program.

“It makes me feel awesome,” Brett Bolton said. “I think I am very fortunate to get it, especially with the economy with the way it is. It’s hard to be able to get a job and pay for your school these days, so having a scholarship definitely helps.”

Travis Smith, another student who received the scholarship, says he is thankful for it.

Since 1995, Riverfest has donated nearly $150,000 to the CFCC Foundation to support the college’s Marine Technology students.
