Troopers find log truck that hit and killed child getting off school bus

SAMPSON COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Highway Patrol says a child is dead in Sampson County after being hit getting off a school bus.

Troopers say it happened on US 421 around 3:30 p.m.

They have located the log truck loaded with logs with a burgundy cab that was heading south on 421 toward Pender County. They say the truck passed a school bus stopped between Delway and Harrells and hit the child.

Volunteers celebrated at awards banquet

Some of our area's best volunteers were celebrated on Tuesday night.  The Cape Fear Veterans Council recognized all the amazing work done by volunteers in our area at their annual awards banquet in Thalian Hall.
