NPR science host Flatow visits WHQR

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The host of the radio show “Science Friday” is in Wilmington to make appearances for WHQR.

NPR science correspondent Ira Flatow has a weekly call-in radio program that connects listeners with scientists. Flatow discusses how to convey science to the public. Today his topic was talking science in a science-challenged society.

He says finding out how the world works interests him.

“Ninety-six percent of the universe is made out of some spooky, dark stuff and some spooky energy and matter, and not to know what 96 percent of the universe is made out of in the 21st century is just mind blowing,” Flatow said. “I want to find out, and I want to help people understand that.”

Flatow says his show is a chance for the public to talk to a real scientist. They talk about technology, health, medicine, space and the environment.
