New Hanover County attempts to save lives faster

Tuesday, May 28th, 2013

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office wants citizens to take part in its new Yellow Dot Program.

The program alerts emergency responders to an individual’s vital medical information to speed up help during emergencies.

All you have to do is fill out a form with your information and place it in your glove compartment, or on your refrigerator, where first responders are trained to look.

“This is not just about one agency. If we don’t all share this information, if we don’t all work together in this program it would be ineffective. I think that is a perfect example of everybody working together to try and take care of citizen the best we can,” New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon said.

If you are interested in participating in the program, you can pick up an envelope of information and forms to fill out, at any of the emergency response agencies. Those locations include the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Wilmington Police Department, and Highway Patrol. Select Wilmington fire stations will also have the pamphlets.

The Sheriff’s Office will host an information session Saturday June 8th, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

For more information you can call 798-4183.
