FIRST ON 3: Judge Ola Lewis to run for Supreme Court, appear on Fox News tonight

Friday, June 21st, 2013

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Resident Superior Court Judge Ola Lewis plans to run for the North Carolina Supreme Court. Lewis tells WWAY NewsChannel 3 she announced her candidacy earlier this month at the NCGOP Convention.

State Board of Elections records show Lewis filed paperwork to form a campaign committee June 11.

Lewis says her candidacy may be why she will appear on tonight’s edition of “Hannity” on Fox News. Judge Lewis is part of a town hall discussion about being black and Republican, she told WWAY NewsChannel 3.

Lewis said she had a front-row seat for the discussion. It included topics like whether President Obama has helped or hurt black America and “What we as a people can do to get more blacks into the GOP,” she said.

Lewis described the show as “heated and spirited.” She said the show includes some “big names,” including Oklahoma Speaker of the House T.W. Shannon, authors and TV personalities.
