Wrightsville’s rising drawbridge to slow traffic

Big name comedians coming to City Stage, Nutt Street Comedy Room

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Some top-notch comedians will bring their best humor to several Wilmington stages over the next few weeks.

Nutt Street Comedy Club is hosting live stand-up performances downtown, beginning Friday night, giving you a chance to get in a good laugh throughout the summer months.

Kicking off the weekend line-up for live performances that go on through August, see Michael Che, who has been a guest on Comedy Central and ‘The Late Show with David Letterman,’ on Friday and Saturday nights.

Then on Sunday, check out comedian Kyle Kinane, who has also appeared on Comedy Central, and joined Conan O’Brian as a featured guest on the popular late night show.

The shows are going on Friday and Saturday at Nutt Street Comedy Room, and on Sunday at City Stage, with all shows beginning at 8 p.m., with a later show on Saturday at 9:30 p.m.

Timmy Sherrill, owner of the Nutt Street Comedy Room, stopped by Good Morning Carolina to let us know what to expect.

Investigators say cause of house fire was accidental

Investigators with the Wilmington Fire Department say a fire Tuesday night at a building in the 2000 block of Carolina Beach Road was accidental.

Workers: DAK Americas closing Navassa plant

NAVASSA, NC (WWAY) — DAK Americas has called a news conference this afternoon, where it is expected the Charlotte-based company will announce it will close its Cape Fear Manufacturing Site in Navassa.

Several people close to the situation tell us employees found out this morning that the plant will close this fall.

In February the company said it was considering shutting all or part of the facility, which employs a total of 600 full-time and contract workers. At the time a company spokesman also said the review could also mean additional investment.

Navassa Mayor Eulis Willis said he had not heard about the news conference when we contacted him.

“I hope it’s good news,” Willis said.

Brunswick County Economic Development Director Jim Bradshaw said he did know what the announcement would be, but said he wouldn’t comment until after it’s made.
