Supply man wanted for string of golf club thefts

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and Sunset Beach Police are looking for a Supply man in connection with a string of thefts.

Charles Howard Peele, 38, of Pelican Roost Dr. SW, has outstanding warrants for six counts of felony larceny which investigators say includes nearly $18,000 in personal property, mainly golf bags and clubs. The thefts happened June 14 and 17 in the south end of Brunswick County.

The Department of Corrections website shows Peele’s criminal history includes convictions for credit card fraud, theft and stealing a car.

Anyone with information on where Peele might be is asked to call Det. Mike Murray with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 253-2777 or Det. Joe Smith with the Sunset Beach Police Department at (910) 579-2151.

Topsail Beach drowning victim identified

TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Topsail Beach Police have identified a man who drowned off the coast Saturday.

Police Chief Sam Gervase says the victim was Stephen O’Rork, 36, who was vacationing from Greensboro.

Gervase says officers received a call at 12:49 p.m. Saturday from someone who thought they saw a body in the water. He says 40 minutes later, another call came in that people on the beach saw the body in the surf near the Jolly Roger Pier and brought it to shore.

Gervase says O’Rork leaves behind two young children.
