New wine bistro headed to Downtown Wilmington

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Downtown Wilmington will soon be getting a new restaurant.

Perkeo is moving into the space that once was home to Deluxe.

Two friends who met while working for a defense contractor plan to open a wine bistro in the fall.

Lynn Adkins and Malissa Mashburn have enjoyed traveling the world, tasting wines and food and hope to bring some flavor to the Port City.

“It’s just a passion of both of ours. We really like food, and we really enjoy wine, and finding a wine and a food that matches really well is a big passion of ours, and that’s kind of what we want to bring to Wilmington,” said Mashburn.

Perkeo will feature a variety of local and imported wines.

Cuisines will include Asian, American and European foods.

Perkeo is expected to open in September.

Suspect in church break-in says he was framed

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man accused of robbing a Wilmington church last night says he was framed.

Just before 10 p.m. police responded to a breaking and entering at Emmanuel Temple Church. That’s where they found Davis in an alley way an arrested him for stealing from the church.

Today during a jailhouse interview, Davis said he was trying to get paid $130 his boss owed him just before police arrested him for allegedly stealing a computer from a church.

“He got out of the car and disappeared,” Davis said of the other man. “I didn’t know what he was doing. I didn’t.”

Davis said soon after he met his boss to collect the cash, he realized the man had other intentions, and he didn’t realize what the building was next to the alley where they met.

“I didn’t know it was a church,” Davis said.

Although police say Davis robbed the church, he is adamant that he’s innocent.

“I don’t deserve to be here (in jail),” Davis said. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Davis said if he does sees his boss again, he will do something wrong.

“I don’t think I would be talking to him actually. I think I would be back in here for really hurting that boy,” Davis said.

Davis had something to say to the congregation and the pastor he is accused of hurting.

“I can talk to him, and we can pray together,” he said.

We reached out the pastor of Emmanuel Temple Church to get his take on what happened, but the phone numbers we found for him and the church were out of service. No one was at the church when we stopped by.
