Police look for suspects in bank robbery, shootout

Saturday, July 27th, 2013

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) – High Point police are searching for four suspects who took a bag of money from armored truck guards as they were unloading it and made their getaway as the guards shot at them.

The High Point Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/175klo7) the guards unloaded money from an armored Brinks truck outside SunTrust bank on Eastchester Drive when two masked men approached them with a shotgun Thursday.

Authorities say the two men jumped into a white Dodge Caravan and crashed into a fence behind the bank. They were picked up by a woman driving a Ford F-150 and drove away.

The guards fired shots at the suspects, but it’s not known if any of the suspects were hurt.

Charlotte going slow on response to airport bill

Friday, July 26th, 2013

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Charlotte’s city manager says the officials are examining a full range of options after the N.C. General Assembly voted on new legislation to establish an airport authority.

City Manager Ron Carlee said the new bill passed by the state House and Senate early Friday is extremely complex. As a result, he said the city won’t make any rash judgments, and added it would be premature to discuss any options or recommendations he would make to the mayor and city council.

The state House and Senate voted early Friday to restore Charlotte Douglas International Airport to the city’s ownership but give day-to-day operations to a new commission.

Republican lawmakers last week transferred the airport to a regional authority. A judge blocked the move hours later in response to a city lawsuit.

Carolina Flyboard jet-packs over the Cape Fear River

Friday, July 26th, 2013

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A unique sight caught the attention of many people strolling around Downtown tonight.

A new Wilmington company, Carolina Flyboard, had a representative jet-pack over the Cape Fear River.

Connected to a jet-ski, the jet-pack allows the user to hover over a body of water using hydro-pressure.

It costs just over 50 dollars to rent the gadget.

People who are brave enough to try it, say is is a lot of fun and surprisingly easy.

“I am 59-years-old. I figure if I can do it, anyone can do it,” Tommy Lineberry said. “It really is a blast. To fly up in the air and do twists; I haven’t done twists, but they do.”

The company has been in business for about a month.

For more information you can find them on Facebook by using Carolina Flyboard as the keyword.
