Investigators say Southport fire was set

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Investigators say a fire in Southport last night was set and remains under investigation.

Brunswick County Fire Marshal Scott Garner says the house fire was “incendiary in nature.” He says the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is handling the criminal investigation.

Firefighters say the flames destroyed a vacant house behind Surf Cinemas and backed up traffic on Long Beach Road as crews worked to put it out.

Police shut down illegal bar in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say they helped bust an illegal bar overnight.

WPD and Alcohol Law Enforcement served a search warrant at 510 S. 14th St. last night after getting numerous complaints from neighbors.

Police say they seized several video poker machines, a small amount of cocaine and a large amount of alcohol during the search.

Police arrested Aretha Session, 44, for possession of a video poker machine, maintain a dwelling for the purpose of keeping a controlled substance and selling alcohol without an ABC permit.

Andre Maurice Session, 49, is charged with selling alcohol without an ABC permit.
