Board of Elections member pushes to move polling places out of private buildings

Father and son wanted for thefts in New Hanover Co.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for a father/son duo who are suspects in a several thefts across the county.

Deputies are looking Stephen Ridley and his son Zachary.

Investigators say the latest theft was at 2217 Castle Hayne Rd. They say the victim came home to find two of his lawnmowers missing along with most of his tools. The victim found his lawnmowers and tools at All Metal Recycling, where the deputies say the suspects had sold the property for scrap. Once the victim got home, he found the two suspects in his back yard trying to steal his stump grinder. Deputies say the victim confronted the Ridleys, who left in a white Ford F-150 with license plate VNA-7844.

The Sheriff’s Office say this is just one of many larceny cases it is investigating involving the Ridleys. Other communities suspected of being hit by the duo are the Monkey Junction area, Castle Hayne, inside the city and Ogden areas.

Suspect charged in cold case rape

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man for crimes that happened 17 years ago.

Paul Lee Oxendine is charged with attempted first degree rape, first degree sexual offense and breaking and entering.

The Sheriff’s Office and SBI used DNA evidence to solve the cold case from 1996.

Oxendine is in the Bladen County Jail under a $500,000 bond.
