Part of I-40 West closed due to rockslide

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) -– The right lane of Interstate 40 West is closed in Haywood County near the Tennessee border due to a rockslide that happened around 7:45 Monday night.

According to a news release, engineers from the North Carolina Department of Transportation are on the scene assessing the slide to determine how to clear the road and when it can reopen. Crews also are on the scene putting up traffic control devices to close the lane and warn motorists.

More information will be released as NCDOT engineers determine a cleanup schedule.

Police look for suspects in attempted break-in

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Deputies are looking for suspects in an attempted break-in at a store in Southport this morning.

The incident happened at the Cash Unlimited store around 8:30 A.M.

Employees say three black men with bandanas over their faces tried to get into the Long Beach Road store before it opened.

The employees say when the suspects found the door was locked, they left.

Deputies say the suspects’ car is an older model teal ford escort.
