Railroad owner says solution likely after Columbus County complaint

Police: Bar employees catch customers using counterfeit bills to buy drinks

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say employees at a bar downtown caught two customers using counterfeit money to buy drinks early Wednesday.

They say around 1:15 a.m., employees at the Whiskey Bar flagged down officers driving by on Front Street. That’s when they say employees told them two customers paid for drinks in counterfeit bills.

According to police, the manager said the same subjects had previously used a credit card that was declined, and left before they checked to be sure their tab was paid.

Christopher Pringle and Matthew Wallace are charged with obtaining property by false pretense. Police say they found another counterfeit $100 bill on Pringle at the time of the arrest.

Jail records show Pringle is also charged with is also charged with defrauding an innkeeper and consuming alcohol under 21.

According to arrest records, this is not Pringle’s first run-in with the law. Records show he hit a patrol car in the Sandbar Lounge parking lot last month when officers got calls about a man with a gun.

The officer was not hurt when it happened, but Pringle now faces more charges, and is back in the New Hanover County Jail under $500 secured bond.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Topsail Beach celebrates 50th Anniversary this weekend.

The fun kicks off Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. with music by the Fantastic Shakers. Co-chair for the event Steve Smith stopped by the GMC studio to run through all the details.

◾ Food provided by Bill's Barbecue of Wilson, NC. $7.00 per plate from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM

◾ Music by the Fantastic Shakers – from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM

◾ Fireworks by Zambelli, starting at approximately 8:30 PM

◾ Beer, wine, soft drinks and water can be bought at event

◾ Dance floor will be setup at event

◾ Food tickets can be purchased in advance at Topsail Beach Town Hall

The outdoor event will take place at the Assembly Building on Channel Blvd., Topsail Beach, NC.

No coolers, backpacks or large bags will be allowed at the event. Attendees should bring their own chairs. We ask all to respect all visitors and enjoy celebrating our Town's 50th anniversary year.

UPDATE: Traffic lights restored on Market Street

According to New Hanover County dispatch, several traffic lights are out along Market Street due to a power outage.  The outage happened around 5 Thursday morning.
