Man accused of trying to hit law enforcement officer with car

A man was arrested and charged Monday morning with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement agent, manufacturing a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, hit and run and driving during revocation, according to a spokesperson with the Wilmington Police Department.

Leland PD: Officer cited for DWI had head injury

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland Police say an officer cited for DWI Saturday in Pender County had recently suffered a head injury.

Highway Patrol cited Ryan O’Connor after a Pender County Sheriff’s deputy pulled him over around 8:40 a.m. Saturday. Investigators tell WWAY other drivers called New Hanover County 911 after seeing a pick-up truck driving recklessly on I-40 North. A Pender County deputy pulled O’Connor over, but handed the case over to Highway Patrol, according to Pender County Sheriff’s Capt. Jamie Ezzell.

Leland Police spokesman Sgt. Davis McGowan said O’Connor has been diagnosed with a head injury and possible concussion suffered when he fell and hit his head on duty late Thursday or early Friday. McGowan says O’Connor has filed a workers compensation claim.

McGowan says an internal investigation is underway. He said O’Connor is scheduled for a MRI later this week.

‘Fall into Beauty’ designed to help local children

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — You can treat yourself to some beauty services without feeling guilty about pampering yourself. Atlantic Dermatology Associates/Dermone will throw a block party Saturday, September 28, 2013.

‘Fall into Beauty’ will celebrate a change in seasons, while raising money for area children. Organizers will auction off items, as well as host a raffle, to rake in money for Kids Making It. The non-profit organization will get net proceeds from the free event.

Dermatologist Jonathan Crane stopped by GMC to sit down with anchor Ashley Jacobs to explain why Atlantic Dermatology is so passionate about Kids Making It.

You can attend ‘Fall Into Beauty’ between 11 a.m. And 2 p.m. Saturday at 1099 Medical Center Drive in Wilmington.
