WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Disney Channel is looking for new, fresh faces right here in Wilmington this weekend.

The free open call audition for local teens and tweens kicked off Saturday from 9 A M to 1 P M at the Wilmington North Carolina Convention Center, and continues at the same time Sunday.

Casting executive Judy Taylor says Disney wants to give kids the opportunity to be seen.

“At the end of the day, most of our programming is based in comedy, and that is a very specific skill set,” said Taylor. “We are looking for those kids who have that kind of talent.”

Taylor says this is the same type of audition that discovered celebrities like Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato. She hopes that, if nothing else, contestants will enjoy and learn from the experience.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — As the busy beach season comes to an end and tourists return home, locals recruit forces for some fall cleaning.

Volunteers met at Johnnie Mercer's Pier in Wrightsville Beach Saturday morning for the "Big Sweep." They collected cans, cigarette buds, bottles, and more from the sand in an effort to protect and preserve Wrightsville Beach year-round.

"It takes a human touch to come along and take care of the things that collect," said volunteer Robert Stidd. "Some stuff does not biodegrade, so it needs to be picked up and discarded properly. We are here to do that."
