Teen shot and killed riding moped on Forest Hills Drive

WILMINGTON, NC – A Wilmington teenager was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting in Forest Hills late this afternoon.

Police responded to the 00 block of Forest Hills Drive around 4:30 pm after residents reported hearing several gunshots. When Police arrived they found 18 year old Joseph David Williams of Wilmington lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the back. Williams was riding on the back of a moped with 18 year old Mark Richie, Jr. when the shooting occurred. Witnesses told police that the moped was going at a high rate of speed down Forest Hills Drive and a grey Honda Coupe was following with one of the passengers firing shots at the two teenagers. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. Richie was treated for minor injuries and released.

Triathlete races to honor comrades in arms

Michael Mauldwin takes memories of the military with him on every training run or bike ride. Mauldwin, 51, served 27 years in the Army. Mauldwin was one of the almost 1,000 people to participate in Saturday’s YMCA Triathlon at Wrightsville Beach.
