WPD issues crime alert after string of break-ins

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police have issued a crime alert for people living near the 2500 block of Chestnut Street to Clay Street and neighborhoods between Princess Place Drive and Market Street after a string of break-ins. Police say there were four break-ins yesterday in and around the area.

Investigators say the thief entered through a rear window and stole electronic equipment. Victims believe the crimes happened between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. while some of them were at work.

The suspect is described as tall, thin, black male in his mid 20s, 6’2″-6’4″ with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, red shorts and a red and blue baseball cap. One witness says the hat was on backwards.

Police say some of the windows were either left unlocked or were easily accessible. One lawn mower was stolen from a shed that was left unlocked.
