UPDATE: Fire under control; part of Oleander Drive still closed

Friday, September 27th, 2013

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Crews have an office fire under control at 6329 Oleander Drive. That’s according to Sammy Flowers, the Wilmington Fire Department Battalion Chief.

But, Flowers says Oleander Drive will be closed until at least 9:30 p.m., and firefighters will stay on the scene for quite a while longer to try to find a cause.

An off-duty Wilmington Fire captain was driving home from work and saw smoke coming through the ridge vent of the roof and called 911, the fire department says.

Oleander Drive between Bradley Creek Bridge to Greenville Loop Road is closed. Drivers are urged to stay away from the area and not to drive over water hoses.

The firefighter who saw and reported the fire went into the building to make sure everyone inside made it out safely. No one was hurt.

We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
