WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Army Ground Forces Band will be making music at UNC Wilmington soon. It will make the trip from Fort Bragg to the Port City as it joins the UNCW Wind Symphony for a combined performance Thursday, October 3rd.
"We are very excited to have this opportunity to share the stage with this outstanding ensemble," says Dr. John LaCognata, director of bands at UNCW.
The Army Ground Forces Band provides world-class music in support of U.S. Army Forces Command. The Soldiers assigned to the band are among the finest musicians in the United States Army Band Program.
As one of the Army's three major bands with a national touring mission, the band gives concerts around the country and it holds free clinics and master classes for colleges, high school and middle school students.
The first half of the concert will feature the UNCW Wind Symphony performing: Wild Nights! by Ticheli, Incantation and Dance by Chance, Suite Francaise by Milhaud, and Alleluia, Laudamus Te by Reed. The second half of the concert will feature the Army Band as they perform: Flashing Winds by Van der Roost, Washington Post by Sousa, Celebration by Sparke,Blue Bells of Scotland by Pryor, and Malegueña by Lecuona. There will also be a special Finale,combining more than 100 musicians from both ensembles.
The bands take the stage Thursday, October 3rd at 7:30pm. Tickets are $5.00 to the general public (UNCW students free with valid ID) and will be available at the Kenan Auditorium Box Office one hour before the concert. For more information go to: www.uncw.edu/music
