WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police responded to several reports of shots fired this weekend and overnight. Now investigators are trying to figure out if they are connected to a murder in Forest Hills Saturday.
Police responded to reports of shots fired near the 900 block of N. 30th Street and Emory Street Sunday night. Witnesses say a black male wearing dark clothing was standing out of the sunroof of a blue Ford Thunderbird firing a gun, possibly at another vehicle. Police recovered several shell casings at the scene. No one was injured. A witness also reported seeing a silver Honda body style car in the area. That matches the description of the car wanted in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old on a moped on Forest Hills Drive Saturday evening.
Early Monday morning, police say someone fired a weapon into a home. They found three bullet holes in the house on Evans Street. No one was injured.
Police responded to another shooting at a home at 823 South 6th Street. Police say children were sleeping in the home. Again, no one was injured, and police are still looking for leads.
Shortly after the shooting near South 6th Street, police were searching for suspects when an officer saw a suspicious vehicle near 19th Street and Queen Street. The vehicle reportedly turned off its headlights. That’s when officers approached the vehicle. Police say the driver then accelerated toward the officer before taking off.
A short time later, police found the same vehicle wrecked at the intersection of 19th Street and Queen Street. Police arrested Stephan Antwain, 30, for assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, hit and run and drug manufacturing. Antwain is under a $50,000 unsecured bond.
Police did not report the description of the vehicle and say it is unclear at this point if these shootings are related.
