Two charged with shooting near Creekwood, third at large

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police believe they have their man, or in this case men, involved in a shooting Thursday near Creekwood.

Yesterday they charged Daiquan Jacobs for number of charges in the shooting. This afternoon it was Kolton Thompson’s turn to appear in court.

According to a warrant Thompson, Jacobs, and a third man planned out and tried to kill Tycoreus Wadell as he road his bicycle near Spaulding Drive and Stewart Circle.

Police say they are still searching for the third suspect. They will not say yet if any of the men is in a gang.

Thompson, 24, and Jacobs, 17, are charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy for their role in the shooting.

A New Hanover County judge increased Thompson’s bail today from $500,000 to $700,000 at the request of the district attorney.

Azalea Garden Tour provides $11,000 in community grants

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After a long selection process 13 recipients received checks today from the Cape Fear Garden Club.

The club brought in $65,000 from this year’s Azalea Garden Tour during the NC Azalea Festival, and of that, it gave away $11,000 in grants for beautification projects.

One of the grant winners, Vann Pearsall, says his share will go toward replenishing the venus flytraps stolen from Alderman Park earlier this year.

“We’re very excited,” Pearson said. “Actually what happened, we had an outcry from across the county. Actually folks sending us seeds from all over so we can the propagations. So we’ve got some already started. This is going to help us make sure that we can replenish the thousand that were taken.”

Moments after receiving the grant, Pearsall embraced the daughter of Stanley Rehder, the man built the Venus flytrap sanctuary and dedicated his life to the rare carnivorous plants.
