New Hanover Commissioners support median project

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commissioners have thrown their support behind a plan aimed at making Market Street safer.

Commissioners today voted to support NCDOT efforts to get money to build landscaped medians on Market between MLK Parkway and Station Rd. and between Middle Sound Loop Rd. and Mendenhall Dr./Marsh Oaks Dr.

Similar medians have been planned from Marsh Oaks to Porters Neck.

The project is part of the Market Street Corridor Study, which is focused on improving safety and traffic flow along the 11-mile stretch of Market from Colonial Dr. to the Pender County line.

Plane evacuated after suspicious note found on US Airways flight in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WSOC) — Fire trucks surrounded a plane at Charlotte-Douglas Airport Monday afternoon.

Airport officials said US Airways flight 2045 from Buffalo, NY, is being detained on the Charlotte airfield after a suspicious note was found onboard.

The plane, which has 124 passengers and five crew members, landed in Charlotte at 1:40 p.m.

FBI agents are assisted with the investigation.

Officials have not said what the note said.
