NC A&T professor suspended over council candidacy

Wednesday, October 30th, 2013

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) – An adjunct professor at North Carolina A&T State University who’s running for a Greensboro City Council seat has been suspended for violating the UNC system policy on political activity.

The News & Record of Greensboro reports (http://bit.ly/1h1v79u) Provost Joe B. Whitehead Jr. said 25-year-old Jamal Fox was suspended with pay. Whitehead said Fox broke a rule saying a university employee must first seek permission to run for office before announcing his candidacy.

The suspension was announced on Tuesday. According to Whitehead, Fox failed to request permission from the A&T board of trustees.

Fox taught four political science courses this semester, his second semester teaching at the university. He is an A&T alumnus who is a former city employee, and he said he is deciding what his next move will be.
