Company to lay off nearly 100 at Wilmington plant

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Mundy Maintenance, Services and Operations, LLC plans to layoff 97 workers in Wilmington according to a letter the company sent to Mayor Bill Saffo.

The letter says the layoffs will happen at 4600 Hwy. 421 North. That’s the address for Invista, which has announced dozens of layoffs of its own the last few years amid production cutbacks.

Mundy says its workers will be terminated “on or about December 15.”

The StarNews reported last year that a similar number from Mundy to state officials announced the layoff of 40 contract workers at the Invista plant.

Man accused of peeping at boys at North Carolina State Fair

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) — The Wake County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Raleigh man for allegedly taking picture of boys in a bathroom at the North Carolina State Fair.

Paul William Fantz, 30, of Calliope Way, faces multiple charges of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of pornography from peeping, and using a photographic device.

Company plans to cut nearly a hundred jobs in Wilmington

Person hurt while disassembling North Carolina State fair ride

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) — A person helping take down rides at the North Carolina State Fair was injured early Monday morning.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. at the fairgrounds off Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh, just hours after the fair ended.

Officials said a 35-year-old worker was reportedly taking down a ‘Vortex’ ride when the incident happened. The man suffered a leg injury and was taken to WakeMed Hospital by EMS.
