Police search for men who rang doorbell, robbed homeowners

Friday, October 25th, 2013

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are searching for three men who they say rang the doorbell at a Wilmington home before robbing the homeowners with a large gun.

It happened around 11 p.m. Thursday at 3428 Regency Drive. Police say when the men, wearing toboggans and hoodies, came to the door, one of the homeowners answered.

That’s when they say the three men forced their way inside, where two people were home, and demanded money. Police say the homeowner handed over his wallet before the trio took off running.

SABLE and K-9 units helped in the search, but police believe the men may have hopped into a vehicle to get away. No one was hurt in the home invasion, but police continue investigating.

If you have any information, call Wilmington Police.

Gunman surrenders in NC drugstore standoff after hostages released

Friday, October 25th, 2013

BELMONT, NC (AP) — A gunman has surrendered after releasing three people he held hostage in a drugstore in North Carolina after a robbery attempt.

Belmont Police Sgt. John Wilson said Friday morning that the gunman surrendered several hours after releasing three people who were in the store when he tried to rob it.

The man’s name hasn’t been released and there was no immediate word on the charges he would face.

Officers were called to the store shortly before 2 a.m. and exchanged gunfire with the man before realizing there were hostages in the store. Wilson says the hostages were released about two hours later and negotiations continued with the gunman.

Wilson says no injuries have been reported.
