Travelers deal with rain and snow on the way to the Cape Fear

Thursday, November 28th, 2013

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The storm that swept across the country this week caused quite a mess for people who flew or drove to get to family.

While weather wasn’t too bad Wednesday in the Cape Fear, it wasn’t easy for some people to get here to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Michael and Debbie Ewers traveled from Roanoke, Virginia. While they said it took them just as long as it usually does to drive to Wilmington, they did have to deal with snow, rain, and back ups.

But they said they stayed patient, and so did other drivers.

“We’ve gotten used to it. We’ve driven down so many times, we’ve gotten used to it,” Michael said.

“When people would want to make a turn off on the right even as crowded as it was it seemed like people would slow down to let them get over there especially with out-of-state license,” Debbie said.

AAA projects more than 43 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
