Pedestrian dies after being hit on Market Street

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A pedestrian was killed Tuesday night on Market Street in Wilmington.

Police said a minivan hit a man in his 50s walking and trying to cross Market Street near the Budgetel Inn around 7 p.m. He died at the scene.

Witnesses said they saw the victim standing in the median right before the accident near 4903 Market Street. Police said the pouring rain might have been a factor in the accident. Two lanes of Market Street were closed because of the accident, but police said they are back to normal now.

Police say they cannot release any more details about the victim or the driver at this time.

Police said a minivan hit a man in his 50s walking and trying to cross Market Street near the Budgetel Inn around 7 p.m. He died at the scene.
