Bryan Brothers show “love” for Wilmington tennis

WILMINGTON, NC (WAY) — Bob and Mike Bryan played several exhibition matches at UNCW on Sunday. They’re the #1 ranked doubles team in the world. It was a phenomenal afternoon preceded by a two hour tennis clinic on Sunday morning with a hundred up and coming young tennis players at Trask Coliseum.

Proceeds for the event benefit Lenny Simpson’s One Love Tennis Foundation, the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame and tennis scholarships at UNC Wilmington.

WWAY’s gruesome twosome of Daniel Seamans and John Rendleman played a ten point tiebreaker against the world champs. Check out WWAY’s coverage from the Bryan’s trip to Wilmington on Sunday’s 11pm news. Video will be posted here shortly after the conclusion of Sunday’s late news.

Man crashes near Cape Fear Memorial Bridge trying to flee from deputies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An 18-year-old Carolina Shores man faces charges after crashing near the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge Saturday night.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was attempting to pull Dale James Voigt over for speeding on Highway 17 in Leland when he fled toward Wilmington, and crashed near the bridge.

Voigt is charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding arrest with a motor vehicle, and failure to wear a seat belt.

He is being held at the Brunswick County Detention Facility under $10,500 bond.
