BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Coast Guard says an attempt to move a Bald Head Island Ferry this morning failed.
Personnel from Bald Head Island Transportation tried to re-float the Adventure at about 10:30 a.m. during high tide, the Coast Guard said, but they were not able to get it off a sandbar near Battery Island off of Southport. The ferry ran aground yesterday at about 9 a.m. Several people on board were hurt.
The Coast Guard says the owner of Bald Head Island Transportation is working to submit a salvage plan of the Adventure for Coast Guard approval before any additional action is taken.
Coast Guard investigators are working to determine the cause of the grounding.
