WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A felon is back in jail after Wilmington Police arrested him for a series of charges after they say he ran from them early this morning.

WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley says an officer on patrol noticed a SUV with several people in it parked in a handicap spot at 200 Grass Lane at 1:13 a.m. The officer ran the tag, which returned an inspection violation, an insurance stop and a pick-up order for the plate.

When officers approached the vehicle, Rawley says a man in the backseat jumped out and ran. Police chased the man. Rawley says when they caught Curtis J. Hall Jr., 22, he had a Kel-Tec .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his waistband. Police say he also had 1.5 grams of cocaine packaged for sale, a dose of PCP and one gram of marijuana.

Rawley says during his arrest Hall tried to punch an officer. He is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and officer, assault on an officer and drug charges. He is in jail under $200,000 bond.
