WILMINGTON, NC (AP) — Some residents say a ferry is to blame for erosion in the Southport area.
The StarNews of Wilmington reports Tuesday that some people who live in the area say that ferry trips between Southport and Bald Head Island are eroding the land and creating wakes so strong that they have worn away sand and exposed pilings.
There can be three dozen or more ferry trips a day during peak season.
Southport officials say that they plan to address erosion issues in the coming year. The city held a public forum in December so officials from the ferry operator Bald Head Island Limited and concerned residents could meet and talk about the issue.
