Jury selection starts Wednesday in 2011 Club 609 murder

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Jury selection begins tomorrow in a Wilmington murder case

Garry Orlando Hines is charged with killing Cornelius Blanks outside what was Club 609 at Market St. and Kerr Ave. in May 2011. Blanks was shot during a brawl outside the club.

Hines was arrested four months later.

Inmate escapes from Buncombe County prison

ASHEVILLE, NC (AP) — State and local police are looking for an inmate who escaped from the Buncombe Correctional Center.

Correctional staff found that 27-year-old Anthony Riddle of McDowell County was missing at a 9 p.m. check Tuesday at the minimum security prison.

Riddle was serving a sentence of two to four years for larceny and possession of a gun by a felon. He had been scheduled for release in July 2015.

Winter weather impacting some flights at ILM today

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The threat of snow, ice and cold temperatures is impacting some flights heading in and out of Wilmington today. 

According to the Wilmington International Airport website, the morning flight from Washington to Wilmington is cancelled, and afternoon arrivals to and from Philidelpia to Wilmington are also cancelled.

Pender man faces attempted murder charge

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The threat of snow, ice and cold temperatures has led some school districts around the region to announce delays for today.

Bladen County Schools: 2-hour delay for students and staff
Brunswick County Early College High School: 2-hour delay for students; All Brunswick County Schools staff should report on regular schedule to assigned professional development locations
Camp Lejeune Dependent Schools: 2-hour for students and staff
Columbus County Schools: School starts at 10 a.m. for students
Duplin County Schools: 2-hour delay for students and staff
Onslow County School: 2-hour delay for students and staff
Pender County Schools: 2-hour delay for students, staff reports at normal time
Whiteville City Schools: 2-hour delay for students and staff

Charter Day School: 2-hour delay
Columbus Charter School: 2-hour delay
Columbus Christian: 2-hour delay for students and staff
SEGS Academy: 2-hour delays for students and staff

James Sprunt Community College: School starts at 10 a.m. for students and staff

Camp Lejeune & Marine Corps Air Station New River: 2-hour delay for non-essential workers

Just before 4 p.m. yesterday, New Hanover County Schools sent out a Tweet that the district does not have plans to delay/close schools today due to weather.
