ONLY ON 3: Checking out icy roads we find man passed out in median

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After hearing reports that Snow’s Cut Bridge had iced over our crews found a man incapacitated in the median on Carolina Beach Road.

While shooting video our crews noticed that someone had hit road construction cones on the bridge.

After turning around they found a Chevy Trailblazer in the ditch with a construction cone stuck underneath about a quarter mile north of the bridge.

Our crew then realized that someone was still inside of the car and in an attempt to be good Samaritans they knocked on the window to check if the man was ok, but he wouldn’t respond so they called 911.

Once New Hanover County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene they too tried to talk to the man.

After a few minutes the man rolled down a back window and emergency crews were able to check on him, though they never took him out of the car.

Sheriff’s Deputies noticed there were several empty liquor bottles laying around the car, but they couldn’t confirm to WWAY if they suspected that the man had been drinking.

WWAY was told that the man would be taken to the New Hanover County Jail by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
